Material or building materials is the most important element of a building because it determines the quality of the building, especially visually. One of the consequences is the disruption of environmental sustainability because the use of excess materials will increase the waste left over from construction. Development efforts by taking into account the carrying capacity of the environment, namely the use of used materials can be one of the solutions to overcome sustainability problems, thereby reducing negative environmental impacts efficiently and moderation in the use of materials. The Butet Kertaradjasa house located in Yogyakarta is an example of a building that uses used materials. This study aims to analyze the effect of the use of used materials on buildings and environmental sustainability. The research method used is a qualitative-descriptive method by analyzing the use of used materials in the Butet Kertaradjasa house and how it impacts the aesthetics of the building environment. The results of the study show that the use of used materials is an option in a design in an effort to maintain environmental sustainability by modernizing designs.
